Assessment
An assessment is a group of questions relating to a subject, syllabus or predetermined knowledge. Assessments in Perception can be classed as Quizzes, Surveys, Tests, Exams
Author
An author is an individual who creates questions. Authors often include subject matter experts who have a working knowledge of a topic. Authors commonly review and revise questions created to ensure that they are correct, reliable and valid.
Browser-Based Author
A browser-based author is an author that uses a web browser to create questions using Enterprise Manager or Open Authoring
Content
Content objects are files that provide the participant with a learning outcome. For example, if a participant answers a question incorrectly, then the participant may be provided with a link to a PDF document containing learning material relating to the question
Monitor
A monitor is somebody who is responsible for confirming that a participant taking an assessment is the correct person. They also invigilate an assessment to ensure no cheating occurs. Monitors can also be referred to as invigilators or proctors
Off-line assessment
Off-line assessment are assessments that once downloaded can be taken on a computer that has no internet or network connectivity to the Perception Server. Off-line assessments can be distributed via USB flash memory sticks, CD, floppy disks and email. They require the Questionmark to Go player to be installed to take the assessments. Results are passed back to Perception when an internet connection becomes available
Online assessment
An online assessment is one that is taken via a web browser over the internet or a network. Online assessments typically retrieve and submit information instantly to Perception
Open Authoring
Open Authoring is a tool that Questionmark provides that allow authors to create simple questions directly into the repository. Open Authoring uses a very simple interface that is designed to be used by authors who have little or no experience in using Perception
Participant
Is a person that takes an assessment through Perception
Question
A question is a sentence or paragraph which may include graphics or other resources which requires an answer
Repository
A repository is a database that contains all the questions, resources, templates, assessments and user details and configuration settings used by Perception
Resources
Resources are files that are used to provide stimulus to the participant when answering a question. For example, a question may include an audio or video file that is the subject of the question
Web Delivery
Web Delivery is a term used to describe online assessment schedules. Assessments scheduled for Web Delivery are taken via a web browser on the internet or network that has connectivity to the Perception server
Windows-Based Author
A windows-based author is an author that uses Authoring Manager to create questions on a Microsoft Windows platform
